52 Patterns in 2015-Week 5

Art and design is all about seeing things a little bit differently. Inspiration is everywhere! Beauty is in everyday things, and we just have to look very carefully to see the wonder of it all. It’s all about looking at objects from a different perspective and conveying that unique perspective.  One of the wonderful assignments in the Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design Module 1 involved taking photos of a shape, picking one particular object and drawing it many different ways. I have always had trouble drawing anything abstractly, but I forced myself to just look at the shapes and break them apart. I chose a tire rim (shown below) and was SO pleased with the results!

I was so excited by the process and the initial design (shown below) that I have started a collection.

A wonderful fellow pattern camper, Cathrin Gressieker, shared with us her mock up for bed linens on her Cat’s Couch blog and I had to try it out!  My 3 year old has now spent WAY too much time in front of the tv this morning.  Pattern making is VERY addictive, so I am off to craft with my kiddos 🙂

Hope you all have a great weekend! Especially those of you taking Jessica Swift’s Pattern Camp 🙂  For any of you interested…it is THIS weekend, February 7-8!!  I am SO inspired looking at the all the fresh design and lovely patterns every day!
